Ok so you have your sandwich, your bottle of water, deodorant and your hand sanitiser. What else? How about preparing for the off chance that you have to wait in a line? Handheld gaming. Almost all of us have a smart phone these days, some of us even have handheld devices like a PSP or DS. If you have a 3DS you should definitely bring that for some street pass action. Having said that, if you are going to play games on your smart phone, don’t forget to keep an eye on the charge level. If you have a portable recharge device bring that, but don’t hold out hope that you’ll be able to stick your phone on charge at a power point somewhere if it dies.
The last thing you MUST bring is a bag to carry your stuff in. The bottles of water, snacks, deodorant and hand sanitiser aren’t going to carry themselves, and if you’re lucky you might even snavel up some swag! Your best bet here is a backpack or a satchel/messenger bag, just keep an eye out when you swing around so you don’t knock people over.
That brings me to my next point which is probably the most important of all. Be nice to people. Despite what some may say, gamers are a very social bunch, so don’t be afraid to talk to strangers while you are waiting in line or whenever you want. You never know who you might meet. Also don’t make fun of others or just generally be an arsehole. We are all going to have a good time, not to be ridiculed by dickheads, so be kind to others, respect them, and be cool.
So to sum it all up you should definitely bring water, food, deodorant, hand sanitiser, a bag, and your handheld gaming devices. It’s probably going to get hot in the expo so don’t wear a hundred layers. The average temperature forecast for Saturday/Sunday is about 25 degrees, and regardless of how the forecast changes as we get closer, it is Queensland so you can bet it’s going to be humid. If you don’t want to use up all your phone battery taking photos then it could be a good idea to pack a camera too.
It’s going to be a great time and I’m sure you’ll all have a ball, so remember to plan your day using the session guides on the EB Expo website and the event map. Oh and just to repeat it one more time: Respect other people, don’t be a dick. See you there!
